    Microsoft Solution Finder and Visual Studio Gallery

    You are starting or entering into a new Arena on Microostf Technology??May be Recession has such impact that you might Look to start a new Domain or Industry.Now come the question how should I know what are the other companies have done on similar notes and where can I get the Case studies for similar work done earlier and the Answer is  Google or Live or any Seacrh Engine:) .However I would like to point out that You can search quickly using the Microsoft Solution Finder https://solutionfinder.microsoft.com/ ,I have always found it quite handy to start with ,who all are the Microsoft Partners,who has done similar work,the type of work and so on.

    SilverLight3 vs WPF :-IS WPF going to be Dead ?


    I stumbled open few article today on this , so what does it looks like the Life of WPF Apps after silverlight3 "off the browser" support??
    The same was the concern when we have WPFe,WPF and SilverLight,but the new story is enhancements to Silverlight3 to make it closer to most of the application need .
    But the answer is WPF will still be there for rich Desktop applications , which is not going away  although I can see the trend towards SliverLight will be more and will cause a big impact towards the ADOBE AIR as well as on WPF.
    Coming to the differences and limitations SilverLight3 can be run from desktop but it  will still be in sandbox with limited Access to FileSystem although you can use the Isolated storages to store the files it has limited size.
    Further to that the WPF can have Device,Richer 3D,Desktop Controls,Printlayout support to a more richer way then that of SilverLight .The more you see the new enahncements of .NET 4.0 support,due to the full CLR in WPF it has access to everything.This is not the case with SilverLight which has the most useful but not all in its mini CLR.However Silverlight will still be handy over WPF when you are looking for multi Browser,multi OS and webbased Application.

    Mix09 Videos Online

    The Mix09 Videos are Online. https://content.visitmix.com/2009/Sessions/ .This Year I found the trend were more on SilverLight,Media&Azure .I was bit surprised to not found many session on Mobile,Surface and Sharepoint.However the Webplatform  is needed to be watch out for in the next coupel of Month due to SilverLight3,ASPNET MVC,Offline DataService etc; personally I like the WebPlatform Installer which ll make the developer life easier.
     
    Microsoft has done significant changes to SilverLight3 on Graphics and Media Support.Also the offline Support new enhancements to webservice stacks http://blogs.msdn.com/silverlightws/archive/2009/03/20/what-s-new-with-web-services-in-silverlight-3-beta.aspx ,RIA services make its the next big thing to watch out for.However unfortunately the Webcam support ,RelaTime Messaging support were missing.I would also like to see the SilverLightUnittest Framework support CodeCoverage and CI .I dont see Silverlight has a msbuild tasks to use it in BuildAutomation.

  • Silverlight 3 Beta Tools for Visual Studio – this will install the developer runtime of Silverlight 3 Beta, the Visual Studio project templates and the Silverlight 3 Beta SDK. 
  • Silverlight 3 Beta developer runtimes: Windows or Mac.  If you installed the tools above, you will get the developer runtime and there is no need to install it again.  These downloads are being made available for test machines for the Windows and Mac platforms for your applications.

    This is From SilverLight Team:-why we wrote our own unit testing harness instead of using something like nUnit or MbUnit. The main reason is because the existing offerings were all written against the full .NET Framework. Even though Silverlight is .NET code, it really is a different platform. And it has some special needs due to the constraints on the type of reflection you can use (public only) and how you're able to instantiate and discover tests. So we decided we needed a harness that was written fully in Silverlight and hosted the tests directly in the harness itself. This has worked out well.

     SilverUnit:-Roy Osherove has just released SilverUnit, a unit testing framework for Silverlight code. I haven’t tried this yet but it certainly looks really interesting as you can start running your Silverlight unit tests inside of MS Test or NUnit. http://www.codeplex.com/Cthru
